Sales volume and quality are not synchronized, and domestic brand cars are facing direct collisions

2023/11/17

According to the latest statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to April this year, a total of 449700 domestically produced sedans were sold, accounting for 29.315% of domestic sedan sales. The market share jumped from second place last year to first place, surpassing the second ranked Japanese sedan by 3.21 percentage points.
However, during the 2007 Shanghai International Auto Show, the collision test results of the first batch of four vehicle models from March to April 2007 released by the China Automotive Technology Research Center showed that the collision performance of domestic brand cars is still in the 3-star zone.
C-NCAP is a complete set of testing and evaluation methods established by the China Automotive Technology Research Center, drawing on the development experience of NCAP in other countries, and combining with national conditions. It was officially launched in July 2006. C-NCAP requires three types of collision tests for each test vehicle type: frontal collision with a vehicle speed of 50 kilometers per hour and a 100% overlap rate with a rigid fixed barrier, frontal offset collision with a vehicle speed of 56 kilometers per hour and a 40% overlap rate with a deformable barrier, and side collision with a deformable moving barrier at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour. In two types of frontal collision tests, one 500th percentile female dummy was added to each of the second row seats to evaluate the performance of the rear seat safety belt, which fully considers the driving habits of Chinese consumers and is a testing standard that is in line with China"s national conditions.
In the future, it is worth paying attention to the collision performance of high-end independent brands such as SAIC Roewe. If they can receive a 4-star rating or above, it will play a driving role in improving the overall image of domestic brand cars.
In the autumn of 2014, reporters visited the BMW Group"s car crash testing laboratory in Munich. BMW technicians introduced that using computer simulation tests can effectively control costs.
Professor Zhou Qing from Tsinghua University recently introduced in Beijing that China"s car ownership has increased rapidly in recent years, and the number of deaths from traffic accidents has long been the world"s highest. According to the chart of changes in casualties in car collisions over the years, the number of fatalities has remained around 100000 per year in recent years. Although the number of traffic accidents has decreased, the large-scale group fatalities and injuries have not yet begun to decline in China"s traffic fatalities. Professor Zhou Qing believes that in order to reduce the annual death toll of about 100000 people, it requires everyone"s efforts, including the government, every consumer, and automobile manufacturers. The reporter believes that in this regard, self owned brand automobile companies need to bear more social responsibility, which is not contradictory to the increase in market share. However, self owned brand automobile companies need to invest more in research and development.
