Steering wheel shaking and handling methods

2023/11/17

The shaking of the car steering wheel is one of the most common vehicle problems in our daily driving process, especially when driving between 50000 and 70000 kilometers. Steering wheel shaking and vehicle resonance can cause unsafe driving. The following are several common cases and solutions that cause steering wheel shaking:

  1. When the car is traveling between 80 and 90 kilometers per hour, the steering wheel shakes. If the speed exceeds 90 kilometers per hour, it returns to normal.

This situation is mostly caused by tire deformation or vehicle transmission system, and it is necessary to check whether the front wheel positioning angles and toe-in meet the requirements. If they are out of alignment, they should be adjusted; Set up the front axle and test run the wheels, check the static balance of the wheels and whether the tires are deformed too much. If deformed, replace them.

  2. Driving on flat roads is normal for vehicles, but when encountering bumpy roads, the steering wheel may shake.

This is because when the car is driving, due to the wear and looseness of the pull rod ball joint or the detachment of the rubber sleeve at the joint, as well as the irregularity of the tire due to wear and tear, it should be sent to a professional repair point for inspection and replacement of damaged components.

  3. When the vehicle is traveling at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, there is a shaking sensation in the body, such as the feeling of taking a boat.

This situation is mostly caused by the deformation of the tire during daily use due to friction, collision, or aging. Replacing the tire is sufficient.

  4. When driving at high speed, the steering wheel shakes when suddenly pressing the brake.

In general, excessive or frequent braking force may cause the brake discs and pads to overheat, deform when cold, and cause steering wheel shaking. Generally, symptoms can be resolved after replacing brake discs and pads.

  5. Vehicle resonance occurs during high-speed driving.

The common cause is due to the distortion or looseness of the transmission shaft cross joint, lack of oil, and rust. Due to the fact that the above components are all located under the vehicle body, they are most likely to be overlooked during maintenance. Therefore, during each maintenance session, it is recommended to have the staff apply butter to the areas that can be oiled.
